A woman is stirring up debate after sharing how flight delays affect travellers.

A tearful explanation comes courtesy of a TikToker named Luray (@imluray). Her now-viral story, posted in June, describes a “nightmare” travel experience featuring cancellations, lost luggage and 36 hours stuck in airports.

But more than that, TikTokers seem to relate to video because of its universality. As airports around the world continue to struggle with cancellations, TikTokers have taken to the app to share their frustrations.

In one clip, a Southwest Airlines passenger filmed his flight attendants singing a nursery rhyme for four hours. Recently, a Hawaiian Airlines passenger called the company after boarding a flight with an unusual “invalid ticket.”

Luray’s video provides further insight into the effects of this year’s airline chaos. As she explained in her video, she was flying home to Pittsburgh from Italy, expecting a layover in New York. But her second flight was getting delayed.

“They changed the door nine times,” she says. “It was to separate the terminals. I took the wheel four times… but I was desperate.

After all the confusion, her flight was finally delayed by a full 12 hours.

“I almost lost my mind,” she says.

So Lure spent the night at the airport. In the morning, she thought she was finally going home – but her flight was cancelled.

And then she decided to go home. However, even that idea turned out to be impossible.

“I’m stuck in New York, five and a half hours away from home,” he said. “And I can’t even rent a car because they’re all taken.”

To make matters worse, Luray tried to get her bag back but was told she would have to wait several hours to do so.

The TikToker finally broke down and called her mother, who immediately offered to pick her up.

In her caption, Lure said, thankfully, her mother took her and made it home safely. But the frustration of the 36-hour travel experience was too much.

It’s an increasingly relevant problem for travelers. According to the New York Times, US airlines canceled more than 2,500 flights in the last weekend of June alone. In June, 2.7% of all flights were cancelled. This is more than double from last June.
