Amid the Southwest flight cancellations, many TCU fans were afraid to travel to the Fiesta Bowl

FORT WORTH, TEXAS (CBSDFW.COM) – The TCU football team will play against Michigan in the Fiesta Bowl this Saturday.

TCU is the first Texas team to reach the College Football Playoff.

There is no doubt that the fans will enjoy seeing the game in person; However, Southwest Airlines’ cancellations are causing problems for some plans, as canceled flights are forcing fans to find other ways to get to Phoenix.

“We’re a little worried we won’t get there, we hate to lose all that if the airline cancels flights,” said TCU fan Angie Alexander. “Look, our team is doing something we’ve been waiting for our whole lives, against all odds, and here we are…an airline might stop us from getting there.”

Alexander and her husband Scott’s third wedding anniversary is on the 31st and usually the couple goes to the beach, but their plans changed when they found out TCU was playing that day.

“We actually canceled our trip and it was non-refundable, so at this point we’re several thousand dollars in, so why not go all in? It’s our anniversary…we’re not just going to stay home and watch the game, so we’re going to buy tickets to the Fiesta Bowl,” Alexander added.

They had a flight scheduled for Thursday afternoon on Southwest and were able to check in online, but the nerves are still there.

“Every hour we were looking at the internet and checking schedules to make sure we weren’t missing anything, hitting refresh every hour on the browser,” Scott said.

Other TCU fans, like Tracy Raesz, had to change their trip.

“Yesterday at 3:30 a.m. I got a text that the flight was canceled,” said Reese, who was supposed to be handling American Airlines at DFW airport Thursday morning.

“Now that I’m not at work tomorrow, I have to take an extra PTO day,” Reese added.

Former TCU football player David Bobo shared his journey on Twitter. The Southwest flight was canceled, so the family rented a car and is now taking a road trip to Phoenix.

Southwest tells CBS 11 they are aware of the big playoff games this weekend and are working to bring fans to those destinations.

“Southwest please get us there!” said Alexander.
