Some passports are said to be stronger than others.
Henley & Partners – a London-based investment migration advisory firm – has updated the Henley Passport Index, which ranks the power of passports by country.
According to the information we received from the International Air Transport Authority, the organization examined 199 international passports and recorded how many travel destinations each passport opened.
The current Henley Passport Index is based on 227 travel destinations.
US passports to start by adding ‘X’ as a gender option
Here’s how countries stack up “on the global mobility spectrum,” according to the company’s third-quarter index update.

1. Japan (193 destinations)
2. Singapore and South Korea (192 destinations)
3. Germany and Spain (190 destinations)
4. Finland, Italy and Luxembourg (189 destinations)
5. Austria, Denmark, Netherlands and Sweden (188 destinations)
6. France, Ireland, Portugal and UK (187 destinations)
7. Belgium, New Zealand, Norway, Switzerland and USA (186 destinations)

Japan is said to be the country with the most powerful passports. Henley & Partners confirmed that there were 193 destinations for Japanese passports.
“Japan ranks number one on the index – the number of destinations that holders of all world passports can reach without prior visas – with a high score of visa-free or visa-on-arrival. 193,” the organization wrote in a statement.
Singapore and South Korea are ranked second out of 192 travel destinations in the Henley Passport Index.

While the three Asian countries topped the index, 23 European countries dominated the Henley & Partners list and placed 10th in the ranking.
The countries include Germany and Spain in third place with 190 destinations; Finland, Italy and Luxembourg in fourth place reaching 189 destinations; Austria, Denmark, Netherlands and Sweden in fifth place with 188 destinations; France, Ireland, Portugal and the UK are in sixth place with 187 destinations. Belgium, Norway and Switzerland are in seventh place with 186 destinations. The Czech Republic, Greece and Malta are in eighth place with 185 destinations and Hungary is in ninth place with 183 destinations.
Lithuania, Poland and Slovakia are ranked 10th with 182 destinations.
The Henley Passport Index says US passports have travel access to 186 destinations around the world as of July 2022.

North America and Oceania have only two countries ranked in the top 10 of the Henley Passport Index.
New Zealand and the US are tied for seventh with three European countries with 186 travel destinations passports.
TRIPADVISOR 2022 shows travel forecasts
Australia and Canada are ranked eighth, along with three European countries that have passports for 185 travel destinations.
In the July 2022 Henley Passport Index, the U.S. was ahead of 16 countries, while the Land of the Free had fewer countries ahead of last year’s ranking.
In the year By 2021, the US is ranked seventh, with 185 travel destinations receiving passports. It is tied with the Czech Republic, Greece, Malta, Norway and the United Kingdom, and 18 countries have topped the index overall.
In the year Between 2022 and 2012, US passports will have 20 more destinations, according to the Henley Passport Index.

According to the US government, Americans are required to have a passport for all international air travel.

Countries with the fewest passports are North Korea with 40 destinations. Nepal and the State of Palestine with 38 destinations; Somalia with 35 destinations; Yemen, which has 34 destinations; Pakistan with 32 destinations; Syria with 30 destinations; Iraq with 29 destinations; and Afghanistan with 27 destinations.
