Tututina fashion designer Stephanie Crowchild is taking the Big Apple by storm.
Crowchild is in New York for Fashion Week, and on Friday her work lit up social media when The Bay released a video featuring her designs modeled by Alberta’s Ashley Kallingbull.

Crowchild posted the video on her TikTok account.
“So grateful to have @HudsonBay and @AshleyCallingbull with me in New York City,” she wrote. “This is a designer’s dream for Ashley to rock. It’s a strong statement that came to me in a dream! Ashley is wearing the Hilberg & Berk collection. @ashleywright017 Jewelry! The amazing native woman cooperated!
Blackfoot designer Ashley Wright weighed in on the video, in which Callingbull wears her jewelry with a one-word comment: “Epic!”
In an interview with CTV News reporter Stephanie Thomas in August, Crowchill spoke about her inspiration. Her mother and aunt taught her to sew and make jackets when she was 17 years old. Many of her modern designs are inspired by the styles worn by her grandmothers; She said that these are often statements against colonial rule.
“It’s beautiful to be Native and wear Native clothing that our ancestors wore,” Crowchill said.
Her aim is to create a fashion brand while raising the profile of indigenous clothing and art.
“It makes me proud that we’re getting more Indigenous representation,” she said.
