Alabaster health business expands to provide primary care – Shelby County Reporter

Alabaster – Absolute Health and Wellness in Alabaster hopes to not only provide primary care to residents, but also to provide a welcoming and inviting environment.

“We feel like we’re taking a different approach to primary care,” says nurse Stephanie Woodrow. “We spend a lot of time talking to and listening to our patients.[We’re]making sure that we’re not really trying to solve the problem at hand, but we’re looking at the patient as a whole person and (looking at) how we can help improve their quality of life. the way”

Absolute Health & Wellness opened in 2021 with a focus on offering services such as therapeutic stretches and massages. Following a refurbishment in October 2022, the business now offers primary care.

Woodrow said there is currently a shortage of primary care physicians in the Alabaster community.

“We[Alabaster]had two primary care professionals leave the community at the end of 2022,” she said. “For many, many years, they were the two main medical doctors established in Alabaster. We have less than before, and the local specialist tells us that they are having a very difficult time taking their patients because the local specialist is very busy, and so we definitely feel that the necessary service (provided) At the right time.

Absolute Health and Wellness currently has two professionals, a physician and a nurse practitioner.

The business hopes to help residents by implementing a practical treatment approach that helps address the root causes of medical issues.

“We’re going to do more education and promotion of preventive care,” Woodrow said. “We take what’s called functional medicine and that means we look at the root causes of whatever disease the person has and try to work on that.”

Woodrow says these solutions sometimes include lifestyle changes, vitamins or supplements.

“We look at the whole thing – everything is with you, and instead of just writing a prescription and giving you medicine, we try to solve other things that can make some improvements,” she said. “We don’t (dispense drugs), we try to see if we can solve the problems or the cause of the problem.”

Woodrow said Absolute Health and Wellness aims to provide a welcoming environment for its patients.

“We tried to create a very welcoming and inviting space,” she says. “It doesn’t look like you’re going to a clinic. We know there are a lot of people, especially post-Covid,[that]have anxiety and are very anxious when they come to the clinics. We’ve tried to create a very safe and comfortable space, and when you walk in, it feels like you’re visiting someone’s home.
