Last week, Air France unveiled its luxurious new long-haul business class cabin with lie-flat seats. Twelve Boeing 777-300s will be outfitted with new business class cabins, and the decked-out new cabins will be available on flights to New York, Rio de Janeiro and Dakar, Senegal this summer.
The airline chose Paris to New York JFK as the inaugural route for the new cabin, which made its first flight on January 20. While the initial rollout of the new cabins will only take place on 12 aircraft, all business class seats will be fully reclined by 2023, the company said.
The cabinet
The new Air France Business Class cabin is fully furnished, and amenities have been meticulously updated. Each cabin has 48 luxurious seats that passengers need for a comfortable flight. There are four seats in each row, single seats near the windows and two seats in the aisle. The new design has a strong focus on comfort, style and privacy.
Seats
All 48 seats in the new business class are fully flat. Fully flat, the bed is a comfortable 6.5 feet long and 28 inches wide, giving passengers plenty of room to relax. The seat cushions are made even softer and covered in full-grain French leather. The seats in the front of the cabin are designed to have more space in front of them for more comfort and convenience.

Additionally, each seat also has full, direct access to the aisle. This means passengers don’t disturb fellow flyers when they get in or out of their seats. Air France has also incorporated more privacy into its new cabin design by incorporating sliding doors. Each seat has a pocket door that can be completely closed, which gives passengers more privacy.
Aisle seats now feature a center panel that can be raised or lowered depending on how you feel about your neighbor. Passengers who wish to pass in front of each other during flight can lower the panel to create a shared central table. If the panel is raised, passengers can avoid their neighbors completely. Each seat is also equipped with a new “Do Not Disturb” feature that politely alerts the staff if you want to be left alone.
Entertainment and communication
All Business Class seats are equipped with a 4K high-definition 17.3-inch screen for onboard entertainment, as well as noise-cancelling headphones. Passengers can use their own wireless headphones by connecting to the screen via Bluetooth, a new feature.
An in-flight entertainment system adds 1,000 hours of entertainment. This includes 350 movies in 12 languages in addition to various multimedia. The relaxation system offers guided meditation and seated yoga classes designed to calm any nervous or restless passengers.
While the built-in entertainment system is impressive, it’s worth noting that passengers in Business Class only get free Wi-Fi for simple messaging. Anyone who wants to surf the web, check email, or stream shows must pay for an upgrade.
Nutrition
Lately, airlines seem to be putting more effort into dining options, and Air France is no different. It’s no surprise that a country known for its exquisite cuisine has recruited several Michelin-starred French chefs to design its business class menu. Featured chefs include the renowned Michel Roth, Regis Macron and Anne-Sophie Pic.
Environmental commitment
Finally, Air France recently pledged to offer guests a more environmentally friendly experience in Business Class. Among the changes they made:
- Reducing plastic packaging and adding recycled materials to their convenience kits
- Sourcing 100% meat, milk and eggs from French producers
- Children’s meals are prepared entirely with organic products
- Efforts to reduce food waste by allowing business class passengers to choose meals before take off
