AiDA is the new technology and art of fashion icon launched at the Hong Kong Fashion Show.
This year, models wore clothes created using AI-powered tools during the Fashion X AI exhibition in Hong Kong. The items on display, which include more than 80 collections from 14 designers, were created with the help of a program called AIDA, or AI-based Interactive Design Assistant.
Attendees at Cynthia Tese’s Dec. 19 event said they felt like they were seeing the future of fashion. “I guess the cover of her face must look strange, and it’s very interesting,” she says of one dress in the exhibit. The program, says AidLab CEO Calvin Wong, is designed to serve as a “support tool” for designers.
As Wong explained, AiDA is an assistant fashion designer that helps them collaborate. “AI and designer can collaborate to create the ultimate collection.” The AiDA system, according to Wong, is driven by artificial intelligence technologies for image production, search and tagging. Virtual mood boards allow designers to enter original designs, materials and color schemes. Software algorithms generate blueprints that designers can edit and personalize at their discretion.
According to Wong, this technology can generate dozens of template options in less than 10 seconds, saving valuable creative time. Hong Kong-based fashion designer Mountain Yam has been using AID for the past six months, and says it has not only inspired her work but saved her time.
“Our relationship is similar to lovers, I think Aida is more recognized and gradually knows my preferences,” says Yam. “The system gives me ideas based on my line, style and database. I may have never thought of it, but according to Aida’s opinion, it is suitable for me. Our relationship is long-term. I think it will take time.
Noting that future collections aren’t as radical as those that helped her start her career, fashion designer Yulia Tlily hopes that AI design will feature prominently in her collection.
“I believe AI has full potential, and this is a great opportunity for students and educators to really work together on this very exciting topic,” Tilley said.
AIDA is open to designers in Europe and Asia Pacific and was officially introduced during the Fashion X AI exhibition.

A fusion of robotics and artificial intelligence, Ai-da is a robot poet and artist. Oxford’s Aidan Meller has been credited with developing the i-da, a robot with a twist. The world’s first super-realistic humanoid robot is a prolific poet and artist. In honor of Dante, the Italian poet who wrote the Divine Comedy, she recently went so far as to read some of her writings in public. The event commemorated the 700th death anniversary of the famous poet. At the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford, the audience was fascinated by Ai-poetry Das because of its unique quality.
Her poetry had a responsive quality as she incorporated robotics into her creative output, using her algorithms and databases to compose after being intellectually influenced by Dante’s rhetoric. As with any creation, Aidan Meller is quick to say that Ai-emotional Da’s interpretation of these phrases is not different from the poets who write her poetry.
The following is an example of a robot poet and painter: “Our eyes peered from our poems like captive captives, sent to seek light, but it never came.” The drawing needs to be finished with a needle and thread. To see the pitiful, poor creatures, the hawk’s eyes are closed. The lines fit well with Ai-design Da’s philosophy, which is to create human-like robots by adapting robot behavior using AI. It also focuses on human behavioral tendencies, to emphasize the potential close relationship between humans and robots. Not to mention, these examples portray deterministic technology as humane and liberating, in contrast to its sometimes perceived restrictive nature.
