The USC Marshall School of Business and the USC Viterbi School of Engineering are launching a new joint undergraduate degree. Artificial Intelligence for Business. “We know there’s a huge need for business-trained students in the marketplace and across society, but we also understand how AI works, what machine learning means, and our willingness to embrace the ethical implications of these technologies,” Ramandeep said. The Joint AI for Business degree USC Viterbi is the first to offer two school names in the diploma, which shows the true interdisciplinary nature of the program. It will be a four-year, 128-unit curriculum with courses both at Marshall and Viterbi. For example, students take both core business courses at Marshall and AI-focused courses at Viterbi with additional new integration courses.
USC Viterbi’s coursework covers machine learning, human interaction, robotics and programming in Python. As part of the degree requirements, students study Security and Privacy and Ethics for Engineers at USC Viterbi.
The integrated components that will be developed will provide greater context for making business decisions in the age of AI. Created specifically for the joint degree at Marshall, these four courses include a semester-long program for first-year students, as well as a program that introduces students to digital transformation, AI and smart contracts, and technology strategy. The new degree in AI Business is one of a suite of interdisciplinary data science degree programs offered at USC Viterbi. In fact, the school has joint data science programs with the Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism, the Price School for Public Policy, and the Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences. The new degree complements Viterbi and Marshall’s combined bachelor’s degree in computer science and business administration.
