Airbnb, which announced a permanent ban on parties at host properties in June, is testing anti-party technology in the US and Canada. These tools aren’t meant to be real-world party-crash gadgets. The tools focus on when the customer is booking the property, looking at several factors to identify “high risk areas”. They take into account factors such as how long the guest has had an Airbnb account, how far back the listing is, and their history of positive reviews. For example, it could mean a planned stay of one or two nights in the guest’s home town over the weekend. Airbnb says it has reduced unauthorized parties by 35 percent in Australia, where it first tested the devices.
