ADRIAN, Michigan (WTVG) – PlaneWave Instruments’ RC700 will be installed at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Maryland in November 2021.
The system will be used to demonstrate laser communication technology for future spaceflight missions.

Development of the RC700 began when the PlaneWave team realized that the industry needed more than just laser communication. This is the first telescope engineered to meet the exact needs of the user with features in software, design, assembly and testing.
PlaneWave’s RC700 is designed to meet the demanding needs of research, commercial and defense applications. The RC700 is an ideal platform for laser communication and satellite laser ranging.
“All we had to do was listen,” said Eric Blackhurst, vice president of sales and marketing at PlaeWave Instruments. “The industry had gaps in technology, and we knew we could fill those gaps.” With PlaeWave technology, optics and tracking, customers looking to perform highly accurate satellite tracking can now do so faster and more accurately than ever before.

PlaneWave Instruments’ mission to build the perfect telescope further demonstrated its recent partnership with Hart Scientific Consulting International to launch the world’s first pre-commercial integrated adaptive optics solution.
“As an off-the-shelf telescope manufacturer, we’re doing what no one else has done, but with off-the-shelf adaptive optics components that we hope to further grow the laser communications market,” Dieterich said.
