This weekend (April 14-17) closures for improvement projects are planned on portions of Phoenix-area freeways. The Arizona Department of Transportation advises drivers to allow extra time and plan to use alternate routes.
The following weekend freeway restrictions apply:
I-10
Eastbound Interstate 10 is closed between SR 51/Loop 202 “Mini-Stack” and Baseline Road from 10 pm Friday to 4 am Monday (April 17) for the I-10 Broadway Curve improvement project. Eastbound I-10 on-ramps between 3rd Street (near the tunnel) and Baseline Road. The westbound US 60 ramp to eastbound I-10 is closed.
Turns: Traffic approaching the closure from eastbound I-10 and southbound SR 51 will be detoured onto eastbound Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) to southbound Loop 101 (Price Freeway) and westbound Loop 202 (Santa Freeway) in Chandler to I-10. He can go beyond the road. Closure. Drivers in the West Valley can use I-10 south/eastbound on Loop 202 (South Mountain Freeway) to bypass the closure.
Westbound I-10 will be narrowed to two lanes between Broadway Road and 40th Street from 10 pm Friday to 4 am Monday (April 17) for bridge work. Westbound I-10 on-ramp is closed at Broadway Road. Westbound I-10 westbound ramp 60 HOV is closed. Allow extra travel time and consider alternative routes.
Eastbound I-10 (Phoenix direction) will be narrowed to one lane at SR 85 and Watson Road in Buckeye from 9 a.m. Friday to 9 p.m. Saturday (April 15). Westbound I-10 (toward Los Angeles) will then be narrowed to one lane between Watson Road and SR 85 from 9 a.m. Saturday until 5 p.m. Monday (April 17). Allow extra travel time and be prepared to merge safely when approaching and traveling through all work zones. Note: Westbound I-10 will be closed overnight from 11 pm Friday to 3 am Saturday (April 15) to clear the southbound SR 85 ramp. Detours will be in place.
I-17
Southbound I-17 is closed between Loop 101 and Thunderbird Road from 9:00 a.m. Friday through 5:00 a.m. Monday (April 17). Both Loop 101 southbound I-17 ramps are closed. Southbound I-17 on-ramps at Deer Valley Road, Pinnacle Peak Road and Rose Garden Lane are also closed.
Turns: Consider using eastbound Loop 101 to southbound SR 51 to approach the Downtown Phoenix area. (Note: The southbound SR 51 ramp to eastbound I-10 is closed this weekend). Southbound I-17 drivers can exit and use southbound 19th or 35th avenues before the closure.
US 60
Eastbound US 60 (Superstition Freeway) is closed between Mesa and Val Vista Drive from 9:00 a.m. Friday through 5:00 a.m. Monday (April 17). The eastbound 60 on-ramps at Alma School Road and Country Club Drive are also closed. Turns: Consider using eastbound Loop 202 (Red Mountain or Santan freeways) as alternate freeway routes. Motorists can exit before the closure and use eastbound Baseline Road or Southern Street as detours.
Loop 303
Eastbound Loop 303 is closed between Lake Pleasant Parkway and I-17 from 8 a.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday (April 17). turn on Consider using northbound Lake Pleasant Parkway to eastbound SR 74 to get to I-17.
ADOT plans and builds new freeways, additional lanes and other improvements in the Phoenix area as part of the Regional Transportation Plan for the Maricopa County region. Most of the projects are partially funded by Proposition 400, approved by Maricopa County voters in 2004.
