Following last year’s high number of fashion collaborations, 2022 has seen its fair share of major partnerships from design houses such as Louis Vuitton, GCC, Prada, Balenciaga and more.
The year kicked off with Kanye West and the Gap Yeezy Gap collaboration with Balenciaga creative director and West’s best friend Demna Gvasalia, the Yeezy Gap engineer taking it a step further by collaborating on a Balenciaga collection, releasing two drops so far this year.
Most recently, designer Simone Porte revealed that Jacquemus will be teaming up with Nike on a small women’s sportswear collection for the fall 2022 Jacquemus ready-to-wear runway show.
Here, WWD narrows down some of the biggest fashion collaborations debuting in 2022. Read on for more.
Yeezy Gap by Balenciaga Engineer
Kanye West and Gap have taken their Yeezy Gap collaboration a step further, bringing in West’s close friend and collaborator, Balenciaga creative director Demna Gvasalia, to announce a new collaboration between the three brands called Yeezy Gap Engineered by Balenciaga. In January.
He released the first drop of the collaboration in February, which consists of a denim jacket, jeans, various logo t-shirts, hoodies, fitted sweatpants and puffer jackets. The collection ranged in price from $120 to $440. Yeezy Gap Engineered by Balenciaga released a second drop this May.
Adidas for Prada again nylon
Prada and adidas teamed up once again this January for the Adidas for Prada Re-Nylon collection. The two brands previously joined forces for a long-term collaboration in 2019. The Adidas for Prada Re-Nylon collection is the third collection created by the two brands.
The Adidas for Prada Re-Nylon collection features reimagined adidas original Forum sneakers in high and low versions, as well as track jackets, track pants, sweaters, hoodies and bucket hats.
Balmain x Barbie
Balmain creative director Olivier Rousteing turned his childhood love of Barbie dolls into a close collaboration with the design house this January, teaming up with the iconic doll to create a 70-piece collection that spans logo T-shirts to evening gowns.
The collection was done in shades of pink and included some signature Balmain designs such as sailor sweaters, tweeds, denim jackets and cocktail dresses. The collection features updated versions of Balmain’s signature handbags that fuse with the aesthetic of window-covered cardboard boxes housed in Barbie dolls.
Manolo Blahnik for Birkenstock
Two iconic shoe brands, Manolo Blahnik and Birkenstock, teamed up this March to release a capsule collection that fuses the design aesthetic of both brands. The six-piece collection features three Birkenstock Arizona sandals in velvet fuchsia and blue as well as black leather, as well as three Birkenstock Boston clogs in the same colorways. Both styles are also featured with crystal embellishments, reminiscent of the design element seen on Manolo Blahnik’s iconic Hangisi pumps.
Burberry x Prime
Burberry and Super Spring 2022 collection in March featuring trenchcoats, puffer jackets, denim jackets, rugby shirts, hoodies, jeans, denim shorts, t-shirts, hats and skateboards. The collection combines the signature Burberry plaid print with Supreme’s streetwear aesthetic.
Disney x Givenchy
Givenchy creative director Matthew Williams revealed in May that he teamed up with Disney for a collaboration called “The Wonder Gallery.” The collaboration debuted with a t-shirt and hooded long-sleeve t-shirt featuring iconic Disney characters. A second collection will launch this summer.
Fence
Officially debuting at a joint runway show in September 2021, the Versace and Fendi collaboration, known as Fendace, officially hits stores this May. The collaboration included two collections: Donatella Versace’s Fendi by Versace collection and Kim Jones’ Versace by Fendi collection.
Fendi’s collaborations include clothing, footwear and accessories that combine both the design house’s logos and styles, such as Versace’s iconic baroque print and safety pin and Fendi’s signature “F” logo. Items from the collection range from $195 to $38,975.
Adidas x Gucci
After debuting at Gucci’s fall 2022 rtw runway show in February, the design house released its Adidas x Gucci collection for purchase this June. The collection includes women’s and men’s apparel, footwear, accessories, jewelry and lifestyle. The collaboration combines iconic ideas from both brands, such as adidas’ three-tiered design and Gucci’s classic red and green color palette. The collection ranges in price from $235 to $4,200.
Louis Vuitton and Nike “Air Force 1”
Louis Vuitton continues to celebrate the legacy of the late menswear designer Virgil Abloh this May by partnering with Nike to release nine editions of the “Air Force 1” sneaker, a collaboration between Louis Vuitton and Nike.
In addition to the collection, Louis Vuitton hosted an exhibition for Abloh in May at its Greenpoint Terminal warehouse in New York City.
Opening Ceremony x Peter Dr
Opening Ceremony and fashion designer Peter Do teamed up in June for their first collaboration under Farfetch Beat, the online retailer’s new concept that promotes unique product experiences. The opening ceremony of the collaboration was also part of the ongoing 20th anniversary celebrations.
The collaboration triples on Opening Ceremony’s signature varsity jacket, combining the classic silhouette with Doe’s famous “Spacer” material. The collection also features a cropped varsity jacket.
Nike x Jacquemus
At the “Le Papier” Jacquemus fall 2022 rtw runway show, designer Simone Porte Jacquemus unveiled his design house’s collaboration with Nike. The 15-piece collection was launched in June and included a minimalist take on women’s sportswear.
The Nike x Jacquemus collection included tracksuits, cropped polo shirts, bike shorts, hoodies, bucket hats, t-shirts and two colorways of the Nike Humara sneakers. The collection is priced from €40 to €175 and will be available again this summer through Nike stores.
Mowalola x New Balance
The brand unveiled its first collaboration with New Balance at Mowalola’s viral Spring 2023 rtw runway show in June. The brands created two colorways of the New Balance 90/60 sneaker, primarily inspired by the sport brand’s 990 series and early Aughts running silhouettes. The shoes will release this fall in New Balance stores and select retailers.
