Evaluate – We all love our flashlights, the more powerful the better. But there’s one thing missing from most EDC high-powered flashlights: a sense of style. They all look like they’re decked out for armed attack instead of wanting to have good lighting while you work your life out. Some of us buy anything strictly for utility features. (If that were the case, we’d all be living in mud houses with no landscaping like prisons, because that’s the best shelter for the dollar!) AceBeam has designed a new series of LED torches, whether or not they’ve gone into the design, sacrificing power. I was sent an e70 mini so thought I’d share it with you today.

Design and features
The AceBeam E70 mini flashlight doesn’t look like something you’d buy in a hunting store, it looks like something you could give someone who drives a Tesla or BMW: it’s a powerful and highly functional piece of art. The outer shell is still anodized aluminum, like most high-end EDC lights of this power level. But instead of the cool ring pattern or toothy tactical look, it’s got a taut swirl pattern inside, and a bright, colorful inner lining underneath.
preparation
No real setup is required apart from removing the insulation disc that prevents contact with the battery during shipping and initial charge.
Performance
Like other lights of this type, the AceBeam E70 mini flashlight has five “normal” levels (high, mid2, mid1, low, and moonlight) and a turbo level, as well as a strobe level for creating confusion. Confusing someone as a defensive measure. A simple triple click on the tail piece switch activates Strobe mode, and a single click turns it off. A longer press will move from off to moonlight, or if the light is already on, it will start cycling to brighter levels.
The charging method is a bit unusual. You charge the battery directly: there’s a USB-C port near the top button. I wondered how you could tell the charge level, but when I plugged it in, the LED ring around the top contact lit red and turned green when the charge was complete.
The only other charge is that the maximum light mode decreases when the battery level decreases. At some point, it won’t turn on or it won’t turn on. It would be nice to know where the “gas gauge” is located before you leave for a trip without turning on the light and plugging it in.
The AceBeam E70 mini flashlight contains a button to activate the tail light. It is also a flat piece that can be placed on a step to light a tent during ghost stories.

Final thoughts
We all love bright, rechargeable flashlights. Having something that looks cool means that we have something to gift those people in our lives who don’t want to carry around military hardware so they can find their keys under the car seat. The AceBeam E70 mini flashlight fills that role nicely.
