Carla Welch is one of the most powerful celebrity stylists in the game, with the red carpet’s mastermind taking care of stars including Justin and Hailey Bieber, Olivia Wilde, Sarah Paulson and Trace Ellis Ross.

So in the year As of 2023, we can’t think of anyone better than to ask about the fashion trends that will be everywhere in the new year.

Welch told Page Six Style that she expects to see Pantone’s 2023 Color of the Year, Viva Magenta, heavily represented next year — “They always nail it,” says the stylist. A method of determining which shades best suit a person’s skin and eye and hair colors.

It’s a growing trend on TikTok that has already racked up nearly a billion views, and Welch expects it to go even bigger in the coming months.

“I was kind to him. Being a stylist for 20 years, I have a trend-oriented approach to color. And knowing my customers, I know what colors look good on them, “she says. But I think [color analysis] It’s good for the consumer… the person who says ‘I’m not sure this color looks good on me’ is what I get from people who aren’t my customers and are into fashion.

To that end, Welch recently partnered with Amazon Style on the Color Me Curated pop-up, which offers shoppers a free color analysis consultation led by costume curator Mariana Marcus. At the event held at the Americana brand in Glendale, Calif., Welch curated an assortment of clothing for each of the season’s palettes.

Still, she says, “I think we’re going to see a lot more freedom in clothing.”

Welch says she’s “always obsessed” with buttery material, suggesting leather jackets as especially good buys for the New Year. She was wearing a faux leather jacket during our game.

“Literally, everyone needs it [one],” she says. “It’s affordable, it’s very comfortable. And it’s the perfect piece to have in your wardrobe for a few years.”

“It’s a great way to bring back a little bit of the ’90s and get it right,” says Welch, who prefers just a touch of things.

“There’s a real femininity that I’m seeing in dressing again,” says Welch — not just in terms of on-trend touches like lace and lace, but also a “return to form” and a return to fashion by checking out fitted pencil skirts and wasp-waisted silhouettes.

For those with a more understated personal style, like her, Welch says a well-kept girly accessory is a great way to go.

“We have this great black satin shoe with a big crystal bow on our shelf right now,” she says. “A little statement shoe goes a long way.”

“I like the nude dress – I don’t even think it’s a must. thing No more,” says Welch, who recently dressed Wilde in a much-talked-about version of Lacy Dior for the People’s Choice Awards. “Boyfriend looks like Jean; Boyfriend Gene is never going anywhere, is he? It has become mainstream.”

The stylist especially likes working with see-through styles because they “show off art such as beautiful lace or hand-crafted crystals.”

“A little crystal dress is a fun piece to make. I just think it has to be balanced; like I’m going to wear[mine]with a sweater and tights and big boots.”

You can’t go wrong with tailored pants or an oversized blazer, says Welch. “I’m such a classicist; I love suits,” she says, adding that she likes to see the lines between men’s and women’s fashion blurring.

“I think there’s more freedom in clothing, and I love the fluidity,” she says.
