AAA More than 3.5 million Georgians will travel 50 miles or more from home for the holidays this year.
This is a record high for the year-end holiday travel season in Georgia – an increase of nearly 113,000 people over last year.
National travel figures are also stronger than last year, but slightly lower than before the pandemic.

AAA estimates 112.7 million Americans will travel during the year-end holidays.
That’s an increase of 3.6 million from the previous year, and the third largest increase since AAA began tracking it in 2000.
About 90% of vacation travelers will travel to their destination and air travel will increase by 14% compared to last year, with approximately 7.2 million Americans expected to fly.
Low prices because the pump is helping drivers.

The average price of a gallon of gasoline in Georgia on Sunday was $2.88. That’s 27 cents per gallon less than a year ago.
“Since most Americans have made their holiday travel plans, these lower pump prices may not affect many automobile travelers,” said Monterey Waiter, a spokesman for AAA, the auto club group. “We often see consumers reallocating their increased savings; spending more on hotels, shopping and dining.

While gasoline prices are down from last year, airfares are up 6 percent and hotels are up 5 percent from last year.
Car rentals saw the biggest drop in prices compared to last year, down 19 percent.
For AAA travel forecast purposes, the year-end holiday travel period is defined as the 11-day period from Friday, December 23rd to Monday, January 2nd.
