The tenth annual Security Vendor Survey examines competitive pressures, industry conditions and emerging trends in the security market.

Dallas, February 9, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — Parks Associates’ 10Th Annual Security Vendor Perspectives: Views from the Front Line It presents the results of a nationwide survey of installers/distributors who install security systems, including both owners and those employed by security firms. A survey conducted by the end of 2022 found that one-third of securities brokerage firm owners intend to sell their business, although 42% have no succession plan in place.

The study measures dealers’ views of the security market by comparing data from multiple surveys, and analyzes competitive pressures, industry conditions and emerging trends, including smart home and interactive technologies.

“2022 was a difficult year for home sales after several years of growth, and the coming years will be challenging for the housing market,” he said. Elizabeth Parks, President and CMO, Parks Associates. “With inflation, rising home values, rising mortgage rates and general uncertainty about the health and direction of the economy, consumers are holding back on buying a home.”

A Parks Associates survey of 10,000 Internet households found that 23% of home security system owners found their system by breaking into an existing home. Moving with family heads who are starting a family is one of the top triggers for a purchase.

“The downturn in the housing market is bad news for security vendors. In response, many security vendors are focusing on renovating or increasing their sales to commercial areas, or looking to prepare the business for sale,” said Parks. “To grow, dealers need to avoid high valuations, increase fees where possible and find additional sources of revenue.”
