According to court records, on May 11, 2023, a federal grand jury in Burlington, Vermont, returned a three-count wire fraud indictment in connection with the embezzlement of $560,000 from Valenet, a nonprofit operating in the Upper Valley. Van Vout performed contract accounting work for Valenet between 2010 and July 2022. During that time, Van Vout transferred $560,000 from Valenet’s accounts to his personal bank account.
