Talisker has launched a new Scotch single malt as a travel retail exclusive. Called Talisker Surge, it’s said to offer “palate-lightening flashes of spice and honeyed berries.”

Talisker Surge, according to those behind it, is an expression of aging in American bourbon casks. This conveys what is described as a “very sweet taste”. An additional layer of spice finishes this rich malt with a subtle smoky profile, while still retaining all of this coastal director’s unique maritime character.

“Talisker Surge is made by the sea,” said Ewan Gunn, Global Scotch Whiskey Ambassador at Diageo, in a statement. And it strengthens our soul.

“The spirit of that special place is captured in this richly spiced whiskey and will instantly transport adventurous travelers to this incredible island.”

Talisker Surge thrives in clean or rainwater. This whiskey is bottled at an ABV of 45.8% and is available at key airports worldwide for £85/€95/$115 per 70cl bottle. This includes key airports across Europe and the United Kingdom. It will then be available in APAC from October 2022 before launching in Australia in December 2022.

Talisker Surge has an initial dessert with berries, crème brulee, banana split, American cream soda and butterscotch. Soon, toasted pine nut smoke and a hint of aromatic chili begin to develop, and the intensity and power of this scotch begin to shine through.

Like the nose, the palate starts gently, immediately followed by the sweetness of brioche and banoffee cake with tropically packed peppers. It’s not long before the true essence of Talisker emerges, with sweet sea notes, fresh ginger mud and oak smoke and peppery spice.

Intense notes linger on the finish – hot chili spice and cracked black pepper, fading with distant smoke from the beach bonfires and a hint of toasted marshmallow at the end.
