With a mixture of emotions, the faculty and staff of the Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine celebrated Lisa Wright, a secretary with the Office of Veterinary Medicine, on the occasion of her retirement in a ceremony on Wednesday, August 17. Dedicated to Purdue University, the last 16 were with the Department of Veterinary Medicine.
“I hired Lisa in 2007 and I have to say she’s one of the best hires I’ve ever had,” said Business Manager Kathy Allen of the veterinary library who started the ceremony. And those who have served for years express their appreciation. “I’ve learned a lot from Lisa myself, especially when it comes to sponsored programs,” explains Kathy. “She’s been the go-to guy for the college when it comes to sponsored programs.” Kathy Lisa, especially when working with the Department of Basic Medical Sciences and the IU School of Medicine – West Lafayette, never hesitates to help out when needed. “So I think she’s probably connected with faculty members in all departments. It’s going to be very difficult to fill her shoes, and I’m sure it’s going to take time for someone to build the expertise that Lisa is leaving behind.”
Kathy quoted from a message she received from a faculty member after hearing that Lisa was retiring. “Lisa does so much for us, a new person can’t keep up with everything Lisa does,” Kathy continued, “and that just goes to show how much she’s appreciated. During her years here, Lisa has earned the respect of many faculty and staff, graduate students, post-docs, and made lifelong friends. I wish her the best and hope she enjoys her retirement to the fullest. Thank you Lisa for everything. You’ll miss him.”
Dean Willie Reed echoed Katy’s sentiments. “Lisa, I understand you started at Purdue in 1979,” Dean Reed said. Noting that Lisa started out in what are now called sponsored programs, Dean Reed then went on to work in various positions on campus before finding her way to the College of Veterinary Medicine. “So you’ve been with us 16 years,” Dean Reed said. “So it took you 27 years to find us. What matters most is what you do. Dean Reed added, “I will always admire you for being these unsung heroes. Your commitment and loyalty… has been outstanding and I want to thank you on behalf of all the faculty and staff for all that you do.
In recognition of her years of service to the College of Veterinary Medicine and the IU School of Medicine – West Lafayette, Lisa received gifts of recognition, including a commemorative glass baking along with an ongoing sculpture. Congratulations Lisa!
