A comeback propels Michigan Tech into the GLIAC semifinals.

Allendale, Mich. – No. 22 Michigan Tech put together a 25-0 run in the second half, erased an 11-point third-quarter deficit and defeated Ferris State 68-57 in the GLIAC Semifinals on Saturday at GVSU Fieldhouse Arena.

The No. 2 seed Huskies advanced to the GLIAC Championship Game for the second time in three years.

“We can’t have a start like this and expect to win tomorrow,” head coach Sam Clayton said. “At the same time, I’m proud of the fight we showed in the second half.” Lydia (Sheble) came in and went 2-for-2 from the 3-point line and helped us stay in the game. We have changed. At half-time some things came out and a better effort. Having only one change in the second half was vital to our success.

Sarah Dax led Michigan Tech with 14 points and six rebounds, while Ellie Mackay added 13 points, all in the second half. Fifth-year senior Jenny Postlewhite also tied for second on Michigan Tech’s career scoring chart.

Ferris State held the Huskies to just nine points in the second quarter and led 27-20 at the half. After halftime, the Huskies struggled defensively and committed just one turnover the rest of the game.

Retaking a 40-38 lead on Zenner’s 3-pointer, the Huskies shot 57-percent over the final 10 minutes. Mackay and Rohndorff tied the score 6-6 from the free throw line with a minute to play.

The Huskies closed with 12 assists and nine steals. MTU also outrebounded FSU 41-39 and scored 30 points in the paint.

Chloe Idoni led the Bulldogs with a double-double, with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Kenzie Bowers finished with a double-double, including 13 points and 11 rebounds.

Ferris State (17-12) shot 32.2 percent overall and 23.3 percent (7-30) from beyond the arc.

No. 1 seed Michigan Tech (25-5) and No. 5 seed Grand Valley State (28-2) will play at 3 p.m. The game will be broadcast on FloSports on Mix 93.5 FM WKMJ.

Tech’s last GLIAC tournament championship came in 2020-21 at Ashland University. MTU went 1-1 against Grand Valley State this season and fell to the Lakers in the GLIAC Semifinals last spring.
