Mercyhurst University announced today that Erie native Christine Spadafor, whose extensive work experience spans corporate boardrooms to nonprofit organizations, will offer a special program in leadership to university business students this year.
Spadafor, a new member of the Mercyhurst University Board of Trustees, will present on Tuesday, Oct. 4, in Room 114 at 7 p.m. on “Assurance Leadership in an Uncertain Business Environment: Strategies for Resilience, Flexibility, and Resilience.” Invitations go first to undergraduates in the organizational leadership program, then to seniors in the Walker College of Business, followed by student groups based on availability. A response is required.
Spadafor is a sought-after speaker at conferences and seminars—teaching on key topics in board governance, leadership, and gender equality. She is a visiting executive in the MBA program at Tuck Business School at Dartmouth College and a frequent lecturer at Harvard University, earning her Juris Doctor from Harvard Law School and her Master of Science from the School of Public Health.
“We are thrilled to introduce our business students to an individual of Ms. Spadafor’s caliber,” said Merchurst President Kathleen A. Gates, Ph.D. “We look forward to the insights she will share from her unique work as a leader as they pursue their personal and professional goals.”
As CEO of Spadafor Clay Group, a management consultant and board advisory firm, Spadafor led transformational industry initiatives connecting strategy, operations, finance and change management in domestic and international markets. She has worked extensively as a consultant to Fortune 500 C-suite executives and was recognized by the American Bar Association as one of the top 20 business-savvy women lawyers in board service. She is also a frequent contributor to Fortune, Forbes, BBC.com and various business magazines.
In addition, she is an independent director of a publicly traded company on the New York Stock Exchange, a board director of private corporations, and a consultant to several non-profit organizations. Her extensive experience includes healthcare, entertainment and media, mergers and acquisitions, and business transformations.
Spadafor’s support for Mercyhurst is nothing new. In the year In 2019, she honored her mother by creating the Mary A. Spadafor Endowed Chair in Music and the Mary Pellegrino Spadafor Scholarship in Music, currently held by Dr. Nathan Hess. She also served as the university’s commencement speaker that same year.
