Theft: A 36-year-old Chester man was arrested Sunday morning after breaking into a computer IT business in the 600 block of S. Chester Road in the Swarthmore section of Springfield. The owner of ‘Nerds to Go’ received an alarm on the security system just before 8pm and quickly notified Springfield Police. When they responded, the owner watched security cameras on his cell phone that showed the crime in progress. The suspect fled the store before police arrived, but the owner released a statement from the video. While checking the area, Township Officer Brian Dunkle stopped a male pedestrian matching the description provided by the owner, police said. And the subject, Quader Miller, 36, was positively identified by the owner of the business. Miller was arrested and charged with theft and related offenses, and bail was set at $100,000.

Ongoing mail thefts

Springfield Police reiterated that there have been several incidents this past week where local mailboxes have been broken into and mail containing checks stolen. These checks were later “laundered” or otherwise altered and cashed out for larger amounts than what was written, police said.

The department is working with the post office inspector to investigate the crimes and is identifying vehicles and suspects through surveillance efforts.

Police encouraged residents to mail checks at the post office and to switch to a good Sharpie or gel pen when writing checks.
