Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch
- Flooding has hit much of the Southwest, inundating the Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch in Pahrump, Nevada.
- It covered several sections of the road and support roads, and affected several homes around the racetrack property.
- In what has been described as the track’s worst flood in 18 years, remarkably, only two sections were cancelled.
After severe flooding destroyed roads in the American Southwest, including roads in Death Valley and roads into the Easter Sierra Nevada, the tracks at Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch in Pahrump, Nevada are mostly back in business.
Despite massive mud and debris flows, only two sections were destroyed due to the mud.
“We had two Corvette classes scheduled during that time (Sunday and Monday),” said Todd Crutcher, the institute’s director of marketing. “With the hard work of our crews and DoubleM Construction, we were able to get the facility, West Track, North Track and Charleston Peak up and running for Tuesday’s events.”
The only part of the track that’s under water and closed (so much fun, when it’s dry) is the East Course.
“The eastern track was badly damaged in many places, but The Bowl held a large body of water and acted as a reservoir.”
The Bowl is a very fun section of track that could easily be called a carousel, with camber banking that makes it a joy for anyone lucky enough to ride it.
The flood damaged several buildings on campus.
“We had a few houses and over 50 garages that were affected by the flood,” Crutcher said. “Our team and club members have been working hard to clean every garage bay back to its pristine condition.”
As for when things get back to normal, it looks like they have a few track sections plus or minus and a lot of cleanup.
“Since we completed our new state-of-the-art 3.24-mile raceway, we were able to move the events on the east track at Charleston Peak to CP, so there is no need to cancel any classes,” Crutcher said. “The East Track Bowl should be back up and running within the next week after the spill. As for the rest of the damage, it may take months before everything is fixed,” he said.
If you haven’t heard of it, Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch (or Motor Resort & Country Club, depending on which part of the website you read) has over nine miles of track and offers everything from the C8 Corvette Driving School to SCCA licensing. and personal guidance. Similar to the deals at Thermal Club and elsewhere, you can build your own male racing condom at Trackside. But if you do build, maybe store all your equipment a couple of feet off the ground.
