Reaching Women in Agriculture: A Guide to Virtual Participation

This new Sustainable Research and Education (SARE) guide brings together information, tips, and tools to deliver effective and engaging online (and hybrid) education to farm and ranch women on topics related to farm viability, resilience, and conservation.

The resources and online offerings help address barriers many women may face when trying to access in-person education, such as costs and time associated with travel or competing family and work responsibilities.

This guide is intended for professionals such as nonprofit workers, extension agents, farmer educators, and coordinators who have experience conducting face-to-face education with women farmers and ranchers and who want to deliver programs online.

This guide was developed by SARE, the American Farmland Trust, and the University of Vermont Extension.

24th Vermont Fresh Network Annual Forum Dinner

Join the Vermont Fresh Network’s 24th Annual Forum Dinner for a special evening at Shelburne Farms. Farmers and chefs from all over Vermont will gather on the shores of Lake Champlain to prepare sensational food for you and other food enthusiasts.

There is a silent auction where you can bid on incredible Vermont food and farm experience packages.

Tickets are required for admission and are $150 each. In recognition of industry-wide workforce challenges, $25 from every ticket sold will go directly to the restaurant groups that make and deliver farm-fresh food for this fundraising event.

The dinner is a great way to celebrate the members of the Vermont Fresh Network, and all proceeds go to an ongoing program that helps bring more Vermont-grown and grown foods to the table. Buy your tickets here before the event sells out!

2022 Vitinord Wine Conference

This year, the International Viticulture and Enology Conference is being held in Burlington, Vermont. Vitinord includes wine producers from all wine regions in cold and temperate climates and includes Scandinavia, the Baltics, Northern Europe, North America and more.

Whether you are a grower, winemaker, researcher, technologist, business writer or educator, you are encouraged to get involved in the world of cool climate wine.

Tickets for the three-day conference, which runs Dec. 4-6, are $360. There are add-ons to your ticket for technical tours and wine tastings. Ticket sales close December 1st.

Greenhouse integrated pest management

Vermont Tech is offering a training course on Greenhouse Integrated Pest Management (IPM). The training will provide participants with the tools they need to develop their own IPM plan.

Through case studies and hands-on activities, this training explores the cornerstones of a good IPM program, including sanitation, cultural management, record keeping, scouting, identification, and sustainable control measures.

Emphasis is placed on effective diagnostic and biological controls using live pests, diseases and beneficial insects.

The cost of the two-day course is $400.
