Virginia Tech, an advanced education and research institute in Danville, Virginia, will display information about its partnership with the Institute for Controlled Environmental Agriculture, and share the Virginia Employment Commission’s agricultural training and technology needs and other priorities.
The Center for Advanced Innovation in Agriculture is partnering with the Commonwealth Cyber Initiative to demonstrate the importance of securing technologies in Southwest Virginia and the use of the Internet of Things in agriculture to protect agricultural information and decisions. Faculty and graduate students will be on hand to talk with visitors about drones, sensors, mobile applications and security, and analytics approaches that provide real-time or instant data to make informed decisions about crop and animal agriculture.
As the world’s population booms, climates change, and technologies improve, today’s agricultural innovation is a critical component of producing enough food for the future. This is one reason why the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences created the Center for Agricultural Excellence, which is part of the Virginia Tech SmartFarm Innovation Network.
The center fosters collaboration and connections between Virginia Tech scientists and stakeholders to solve complex problems, develop and implement new technologies and innovative solutions, and help the agriculture industry adapt to emerging technologies.
