Why is this new business in downtown Idaho Falls making goat milk soap?

IDAHO FALLS – Finding the secret to long-lasting beauty is an ongoing quest for many women, and a new soap business in downtown Idaho Falls uses a specific ingredient believed to hold the answer historically.

One of the most famous beauties in history was Queen Cleopatra of Egypt. And according to legend, the method she used was to bathe in donkey’s milk every day. Its ingredients are believed to preserve the skin’s youthfulness with anti-aging and skin-smoothing benefits, The Vintage News reported.

Bumble and Bullet Soap and Sundry sells soap products made from milk at 357 A Street. But the milk is from goats – not from donkeys.

“My husband and son are both sensitive to cow’s milk and learned that the protein in it is very similar to human milk, so we decided to go for goat milk,” owner Sharon Reiser told Eastidahones.com about choosing goats over donkeys.

Any type of milk is known to contain skin-nourishing vitamins and minerals, fatty acids, non-moisturizing fats and lactic acid, which Razer describes as “a natural and gentle exfoliant for the skin.”

“So we’ll see why[there might be a milk wash],” Reiser says. “It took milking like 500 donkeys to fill the legendary[Cleopatra’s]pool. It makes me laugh to think about who made all that milk and how hard that was.

Fortunately for Reiser, it doesn’t take too many goats. She and her husband, Leon, have eight goats on a 3-hectare farm on the outskirts of town. And they milk the goats every day to prepare the products sold in her shop.

The entire product line includes soaps, body butters, sugar and salt scrubs, bath bombs and strong lotion sticks. There are shaving soaps, beard oils and balms for men.

“Everything is made with goat’s milk, except for the body butter. It’s real butter made with just butter and oil. It doesn’t blend well with goat’s milk because there’s no liquid added to it,” Reiser says.

Another common ingredient is honey, which Razer says has been used in ancient times to treat various skin conditions and has properties that help maintain youthful beauty.

And as the business name suggests, Reaser also sells honey from local suppliers.

Bed linen, clothing and accessories are also available.

Razer became interested in opening such a business years ago after learning about the stimulating properties of milk and honey. As a hobby, she started making soap with goat milk and noticed a difference in her appearance when she applied it to her skin. It made her want to share it with others.

It’s also resonating with customers, as Razer says she’s had “greater than expected” response since its June 25 launch.

“We were so excited,” she says. “People are very happy, they want the products and they love the smell. This feedback is good.

She is working to expand her business and promote her website to offer her products to her customers nationwide.

“We will continue to import more goods. People have been asking about the shampoo and conditioner bar, so I’m looking to add that to our line,” says Reiser.

Reaser wants Bumble & Blet to be a fun place for people to shop that offers “quality, natural skin care.”

Bumble and Bullet Soap is open Monday to Saturday 10am to 6pm.
