A large number of Floridians are expected to travel this Memorial Day holiday.
Some 2.4 million Floridians are expected to travel at least 50 or more miles from home on the Memorial Day holiday.
AAA’s Mark Jenkins said 172,000 more people will hit the roads and skies than last year.
“We’ve surpassed pre-pandemic levels, we’ve surpassed any metric we’ve seen since we started tracking travel numbers in 2000,” Jenkins said. And I mean, it’s mainly driven. Just curious on the go. I mean, Americans really love to travel.
Jenkins said most Floridians take road trips to their destination during the holidays. But still others stick around Florida to go sailing. Cruise bookings are up 50 percent.
“The epidemic is in the rearview mirror. Disposable incomes are still very comfortable,” Jenkins said. “Consumer confidence is strong, which typically translates into what could be a very busy travel season.”
Jenkins said New York City, Las Vegas and Orlando are top domestic travel destinations for the holidays.
