Kanye West is firing back at his former business manager, saying the contract he signed with the man was partially unenforceable because he signed it without instructions from his lawyer during a “stressful” divorce.
According to TMZ, West was “sleep-deprived, nervous, stressed and anxious” when West and his Yeezy brand signed a contract with business manager Thomas St. John.
West said he met St. John in March 2022 when St. John came to understand the backlash from several social media influencers, TMZ reported.
The 45-year-old rapper and fashion designer agreed to put St. John on a $300,000-a-month bond, which West reportedly failed to pay.
Although West believes he signed the contract, he did so without legal counsel and said his judgment was clouded by his divorce from his then-wife Kim Kardashian.
West also points to a “bare bones” clause in the contract, which made the deal non-terminating for the first 18 months, essentially allowing West’s funds to flow in regardless of whether or not any work was done.
The business relationship only lasted three months, but West is said to be fed up with St. John’s lawsuit demanding $5.4 million.
Now the judge is not only voiding the agreed-upon contract, but is demanding that St. John return the $900,000 it received from West.
