Pinehurst, NC – Georgia Tech swept the North Carolina Country Club course in 13 under Sunday and ran away with first place in the stroke play division of the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Golf Championship. The battle for third and fourth place came down to Florida State, Duke and Virginia, who started the day 3-4-5 on the leaderboard. Competition information – The ACC Championship will be contested in the state of North Carolina for the first time since 2019, with Georgia Tech winning its most recent at the Old North State Club in New London, NC, which has hosted the championship 22 times. This is the eighth time Pinehurst has played for the ACC Men’s Golf Championship at North Carolina Country Club, which first hosted it in 1966. Last year’s event was held at the Shark’s Tooth Golf Course at Water Sound Club in Panama City. , Fla., earlier in the 2021 championship at Capital City Club’s Crabapple Course in Milton, Ga. Next year’s championship will be held at the Charlotte (NC) Country Club.
The course plays a par of 72 and measures 7,301 yards for the ACC Championship, third in mixed stroke play/match play Friday through Monday. The Championship used the traditional 54-hole, stroke play format from 1980 to 2019 (the Championship was not held in 2020 due to Covid-19). All 12 competing teams (Miami, Pittsburgh and Syracuse do not sponsor men’s golf) play 54 strokes, 36 holes on Friday and 18 holes on Saturday, with a standard minimum of four individual rounds each round counting toward the team’s daily score. The top four teams after 54 holes are seeded in a play-off bracket, with the semifinals on Sunday, and the championship match on Monday. Each match consists of 18 holes and involves five players from each team. The format is similar to how the NCAA Championship has been played every year since 2009.
