Midland, Mich – No. 8 Wayne State defeated No. 44 Michigan Tech 4-0 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference semifinals Saturday at the Greater Midland Tennis Center and advances to Sunday’s championship against Grand Valley State.
The Huskies (9-7) dropped two of the three doubles matches before losing in singles. Wayne State also went 6-1 over Tech in the regular season.
“We lost today, but I’m proud of our fight,” commented head coach Christine D’Agostini-Yep. “We didn’t beat ourselves and we didn’t give our opponent credit for playing a tough match.”
Michigan Tech’s season may not be over as the team awaits Monday’s NCAA Selection Show hosted by NCAA.com at 8:30 p.m. Three conference tournament winners in the Midwest Region earned automatic bids. A committee selects through at-large bids to fill the remaining seven team members. The Huskies were ranked No. 6 in the region prior to the start of the GLIAC tournament.
