Lubbock, Texas – No. 22 Texas Tech fell to North Dakota State 8-1 on Friday night at Rip Griffin Park. Tech put the game away in the top of the second inning, with a solo home run, and was limited to just three hits the rest of the game.
The Red Raiders’ four games match their longest streak of the season, dating back to a 3-2 loss to Rice on March 3 at Min Mead Park. Tech falls to 2-7 this season and 0-6 in games scoring five or fewer runs.
Austin Green produced Texas Tech’s lone run, a 394-foot home run over the right field wall to lead off the second inning in a 2-2 tie. Following the home run, North Dakota State starter Cade Feeney retired all 10 batters he faced before Hudson White drew a walk in the fifth.
Feeney threw six complete innings for the win, while teammate Skyler Riedinger earned a three-inning save. Fenney allowed three hits, one run, struck out five and walked two while Ridinger kept the Red Raiders on the scoreboard with one hit, striking out three and walking three.
Four Red Raiders didn’t reach Friday, when he started catcher Kevin Basel in his first career game. Before Friday, Basel had reached base in all 29 games in 2023. Gavin Cash, Zach Voletic and Tracer Lopez also didn’t get on base in their respective starts.
North Dakota State scored twice in the top of the third inning to take its first lead, 2-1, to win the game. The Bisons scored once in the fourth and scored one run in the fifth to extend their lead to 4-1. In the top of the ninth, NDSU doubled its lead.
Brendan Girton dropped his first career start to 7-1. Five pitchers supported him in a start that saw him exit after 4 1/3 innings. Ethan Coombs shined in the bullpen, retiring five of eight batters, matching a Red Raider-high in a game.

The Red Raiders and Bison return to Rip Griffin Park for two games on Saturday. The doubleheader will begin at 2 p.m. The second game will begin approximately 30-45 after the conclusion of game one.
