I use AirTags in my kids’ backpacks/video game cases – both for tracking and the bags themselves when the kids lose them, as well as our checked luggage.
Every year, a lot of luggage is lost in the airlines. In the year In 2021 alone, more than 1.9 million bags were mishandled by U.S. airlines, according to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. Having an AirTag (or an Android-friendly alternative like Tile devices) in your luggage can be a lifesaver.
Airtags allow me to track my checked baggage and find out where I am as soon as we land at our destination if my bags have made it with us and haven’t made it to the conveyor belt when they do. If the bag wasn’t at the airport I was at, I’d make a beeline straight to the airline’s baggage claim to file a report.

This allowed me to visit the mall closest to my hotel, pick up some clothes for the next 1-2 days, and get paid by credit card when I got home.
If you don’t have a card that offers baggage delay or lost baggage coverage, this is a 100% card in my opinion. The $95 annual fee is absolutely worth it, no questions asked.
Additional tips for preparing for lost luggage before It happens
- Register Blue ribbon bags Both track and insure your luggage for as little as $5 per bag.
- Keep all your valuables and irreplaceable items like jewelry, medicine, tefillin, keys, laptops, etc. in carry-on bags.
- Know your rights. Airlines are required to pay for lost baggage. Before zipping, take a picture of the contents. The Department for Transport’s Aviation Consumer Protection website has detailed information on travelers’ rights in relation to lost baggage.
- Pick up a 4-pack of AirTags or a 3-pack of Tile Mate trackers and throw one in each bag after syncing with your phone.
