SALISBURY – Evan S. Hiatt joined the law firm of Whitley, Jordan, Eng & Raery, PA in January.
Hiatt was born and raised in Rowan County. After graduating from East Rowan High School, he attended Appalachian State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in secondary history and a law degree from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, where he participated in student government and served as third-year class president and with the James and Carolyn Davis Society. By Chief Judge Frank D. Whitney (U.S. District Court for the Western District of North Carolina) and Chief Judge Paul M. Entered Newby (North Carolina Supreme Court) offices.
He began practicing law in Kinston at the Perry, Perry & Perry law firm and focused on defending clients accused of traffic and criminal offenses in Wayne, Lenoir, Greene and Jones counties and in domestic matters in family court.
In the year Admitted to practice law in North Carolina in 2019. He continues to represent clients charged with traffic violations, impaired driving and misdemeanor and felony crimes. It also deals with child support and abuse, neglect and dependency court, commonly referred to as “DSS court.”
“Growing up in Rowan County, I learned to appreciate hard work and family values,” Hiatt said in a news release. “This foundation has made me want to be a positive light for my clients in difficult life situations and to be an advocate to help people navigate these difficult times.”
Hiatt and his wife have a daughter, Baker Palmer, and live in the East Rowan area.
