Haresh Gurnani has been named the new dean of the College of Business at Stony Brook University, effective July 2023.

Gurnani joins Stony Brook from Wake Forest University, where he has held several senior leadership positions. He currently serves as the Chair of Business Analytics, Operations Management, Marketing and Economics in the Business School. He is the Thomas H. Davis Chair of the School, Program Director of the Accounting Business Program (a joint program between the School of Business and Wake Forest College), and serves on the University’s Network for Inclusive Leadership and Engagement Committee.

As dean of the Wake Forest School of Business, Gurnani oversaw strategic planning, new program development, faculty recruitment and development, research strategy and accreditation review. Under his leadership, in the Mathematical Business program, enrollment has increased by 80% and new partnerships with industry have been developed to identify company projects. Previously at the University of Miami, Gurnani served as Chair of the Department of Management (then the largest department) in the School of Business. He has held other university service roles at Miami, including the University Research Council and the University Alumni Council, and has served as a board member of the Center for Advanced Supply Chain Management (CASCM), the School of Engineering, and the Center for Health Sector Management and Policy (CHSMP). ).

Gurnani’s research interests are in operations and supply chain analytics, retail outlet design and marketing, healthcare operations and marketing, sharing economy and sustainability. He also strengthened the Retail Innovation Center in Wake Forest, which has raised more than $5 million, as well as industry partnerships. Currently, he serves as the editor of the founding department Production and operations management and holds editorial positions for several other major journals in operations management and marketing.

Gurnani holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology in India, and a master’s and doctorate in operations research from Carnegie Mellon University. He also held faculty positions at the University of Miami and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.

Guranani succeeds Mani London, who served as the dean of the college for the past decade. LeJuse thanked London in the announcement, and highlighted several accomplishments for the college during his tenure as dean. London has been a driving force in the growth and stature of the college, which recently received its first AACSB accreditation. The college has added several programs, including a master’s in accounting or financial science, as well as a variety of disciplinary areas and fully online options. He oversaw the recruitment of 40 full-time faculty from 15 in 2011, 34 of whom hold doctoral degrees.
