Blackburgh, Va. – The 13th-ranked Duke men’s tennis team opened the season with a 4-3 win over Virginia Tech on the road at the Burroughs-Burleson Tennis Center in Blacksburg, Va. on Friday afternoon, the Blue Devils’ fifth straight win. In straight action, Duke moved to 11-4 overall and 4-0 in the ACC, while the Hokies dropped to 7-8, 1-3.
How did it happen?
• For the first time in ACC play this season, the Blue Devils dropped two points as the Hicks collected wins on courts No. 1 and No. 3. But Virginia Tech rallied to take the lead.
• Connor Krug And Teddy Patience The Blue Devils dropped a 6-3 decision to Matt Harper and Frank Thompson on court three.
• Duke’s 59th rank Andrew Zhang And Michael Heller He fell 6-4 to 13th-ranked Jordan Chrysostom and Ryan Fischback on the first court.
• In Court Two Duke No. 71 Garrett Jones And Pedro Roden Álvaro Sáez-Royuela Ariza and Alberto Orso trailed 5-4 when the scoring was completed.
• The Blue Devils have singles and won four of their first six games.
• Duke came back and took the first match lead 2-1, winning in singles courts three and five.

• The Blue Devils went three-for-one against Ariza’s 73rd-ranked Rodnas to win the match on two courts. After falling 6-3 in the first set, Rodnas rallied for a 7-6 (7-2), 7-6 (7-2) victory in the second set, 6-3, to seal the victory for Duke.
• After the match was decided, Duke’s No. 12 Jones fell in three sets to No. 70 Fishback 6-7 (2-7) 7-6 (9-7) 6-3 on Court One.
Notes
• Rodenas improved to 14-1 in doubles matches and won his fifth singles tournament.
• Duke dropped two points for the fourth time in the first 15 games of the season.
• Dell recorded its eighth straight singles win as it improved to 4-0 in ACC action.
• Heller went 2-0 to remain undefeated in the ACC and won his fourth straight singles title.
