Puma’s new It Girl opens up about owning a personal style and stepping into Gabrielle Union shoes.
From slaying on the red carpet with her parents to walking the catwalk at Paris Fashion Week, you’d be hard-pressed not to spot Zaya Wade everywhere you look. The 15-year-old model is booked and busy, including starring in Puma’s new Forever. Classic. Campaign. It’s safe to say – Zaya Wade is that girl.
From bright bike shorts to sleek bomber jackets, Zaya dazzles in Puma’s fashion-focused (yet functional) activewear shoot. Alongside actors Angus Cloud, Caleb McLaughlin and Iris Apatow, the Jane-Z beau shines with her waist-length black hair and natural beauty. Regardless of her glam moments, Zaya says she’s more relaxed than Instagram can reveal. “Even though I love to show up and show off my best clothes, I truly believe I enjoy a more laid-back style,” she says. In style. “I just need a nice sweater with some shorts.”
Her unique, fun fashion sense has caught the attention of the fashion world, and you can tell she’s having fun expressing herself and playing with color and texture. You can forget about being a carbon copy of anyone who came before her – Zaya Wade is one of them, letting her own sense of style guide her into some pieces.
“I would describe my style as unique, ever-changing and comfortable,” says Wade. “I don’t have a style icon, because I have so many different aspects of my style and what that means to me. I get most of my style inspiration from the people around me, like my family.”

Stepmom Gabrielle Union was definitely an influence to have around, though, and Zaya was taking notes. “When I was a kid I used to wear her heels, which obviously worked, but I don’t do it that way,” she says.
While Zaya may have practiced in the shoes of Union, the emotional support she received from her father Dwayne Wade has catapulted her to new heights. Although the young star has been going by Zaya since 2020, a judge made the change public last month, making a legal change to her gender classification. Zaya called him when she saw that Dwayne was stepping up the fashion ladderHaving an icon” in a recent tweet supporting her.
When she’s not dominating the fashion world, Zaya likes to wrap up with classic movies that she can return to over and over again. 13 continues to 30. “This movie is very symbolic,” she explains. But it’s also very funny and I feel like every teenager or kid my age wants to be an adult, so I relate to the character.
