Cloquet’s Pizza & Sub Shop reopened in February 2022 under new ownership after Gregg Wait purchased the business.

“I’ve always wanted a pizza place, and this one kind of fell into my lap,” White told Pine Journal at the time. “It was perfect timing.”

Saginaw residents John and Emily Beaton launched a campaign last year to create the Northland’s first pizza farm.

In an update posted on the farm’s Facebook page in November, the couple said they had switched gears. Instead of building a commercial kitchen, farm store and gathering space on the farm, interest rates and construction costs forced them to reassess.

They still plan to welcome the public and serve pizza on the farm, but how they deliver it has changed. They cook the pizzas in an “ultra-light food trailer,” preparing food in a nearby commercial kitchen.

Their goal is to launch a pizza farm in May or June, according to the post.

James Sheets, owner of Carlton’s historic Scott House, has begun a new chapter.

The house, which served as a stagecoach stop and inn, continued to serve guests with room rentals through Airbnb for four years.

However, Sheetz decided to sell his home in Lac La Belle last year and return to his childhood home. Room rentals stopped in August, but Sheetz still hosts events and meetings at the property.

Cloquet-based food service Room at the Table took its food truck to Duluth’s Canal Park over the summer. The food truck offers a variety of Smashburgers, tacos, grilled cheese, veggie patties and pulled pork, just to name a few.

After moving back to Cloquet to be near family in August 2020, Corey and Craig Beck decided it was time to take their online business, Garden Island Bath & Body, to a storefront.

The business, located at 807 Cloquet Ave., Suite 1, specializes in Hawaiian skin care products that Cory made herself.

The first wedding Ivy Black Weddings and Events hosted was for founders Kevin Swanson and Andrea (Shevic) Swanson.

Searching for the perfect wedding venue but beyond expectations, Kevin Swanson teamed up with partner Brennon Plasted to create the space he and Andrea wanted.

The property, located at 6910 Minnesota Highway 194, includes a modern black barn nestled between pines and open fields. The wedding and event venue can accommodate a total of 288 people. There is also an 800 square meter bridal suite with a private bathroom and an area for getting ready for the bridal party, as well as a private suite for the groomsmen.

Kimberly Christine at Lacuna Massage opened Ayurveda and Reiki in July at 1111 Cloquet Ave., Suite 1. Her goal is to help her clients escape and relax, which is why she decorated the space on the beach.

Christine offers Ayurveda, Swedish, therapeutic and medical massage.

Emily Boulanger and Liam May opened a storefront for Transformation Training and Care at 5 N. 15th St., Cloquet, in August.

May offers dog training including obedience and leash training. Can work with dogs to correct aggressive behavior. Boulanger handles the decorating side of the business.

Cloquet-based Mainstream Boutique owners Christine Anvid and Rhianna Clark opened their second location in Hermantown in September.

When the Covid-19 pandemic hit, the boutique had to close its doors and move sales online. Since then, Mainstream Boutique has built an online following from people living in the Hermantown and Duluth areas, which led Anvid and Clark to open a Hermantown storefront.

Jenna Gilbert started selling quality children’s clothing online and through vendors in 2021 with her mother, Colleen Sunarborg, and her sister, Bethany Sunarborg. The women of Cloquet decided to open an overflow baby storefront at 708 Sunnyside Drive in 2022 to reduce travel and travel. Time away from family.

In addition to children’s clothing in sizes 10-12 for boys and girls, the business carries maternity clothing, books, bibs, towels, blankets, gifts and more.
