New York Fashion Week is back—and the experts behind the scenes are already serving up dozens of beauty trends on a silver platter. Master hairstylists, makeup artists, and nail artists teamed up with high-end brands (think: NARS, Bumble & Bumble, and Charlotte Tilbury) to tap into the runway’s glam vibe. While all the looks made their grand debut on the catwalk, we got a sneak peak of what went down backstage. From product diversification to trends popping up left and right, the team at Marie Claire has gotten the lowdown on this beauty magic.

Grunge glam was in full force at the L’Agence presentation and ethereal, rose-inspired ballerina buns stole the show on Christian Siriano. But NYFW is just getting started. Here, we’ve rounded up the best New York Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2023 beauty looks—to grace the catwalk—and asked the experts responsible to share their secrets to their products and backstage.

Christian Siriano’s Petal Buns

Siriano himself was inspired for the new collection by the “love of the garden carriage”, and the hair and make-up pencils have been translated literally. “The group of Christians is amazing. It feels static and romantic. We were inspired by the handmade floral accents found in the collection to echo this in the hair by creating a rose-like twist, bringing the hair ‘stem’ down the crown of the head, and finding a rose-like bun. back,” says Lacy Redway, Unilever stylist and celebrity hair artist. To create the shape of the flower, she advises to wrap the bun in a “figure eight” movement and attach each section to the bottom of the tail.

On the makeup front, the shade of flowers and Audrey Hepburn’s dash served as a guiding light. Makeup pro Sophia Tilbury (Opens in a new tab)Charlotte Tilbury’s niece, she spearheaded the glam of late – and says the new Cushion Talk Matte was where beauty blush wands were going. “Fresh, bright fuchsia was a key feature of the collection, so we chose a pretty, rosy, rosebud wash on the eyes, a soft highlight, Pillow Talk Matte Beauty Blush Wands on the cheeks, and a pop of confident color with the satin-sheen, fuchsia-pink Velvet Underground.” A beautiful blush using lipstick,” she said.

In “rock and roll” like the Bone Collection, Lead Makeup Artist and Stila Global Artist Lead Charlie Riddle chose a lifestyle. “Maybe she slept in her eyeliner the night before and then woke up and adjusted her complexion. The skin was kept matte (shout out to Stila Stay All Day Foundation), but the glow in the photo above — which includes zero highlighter — is from months of pre-launch work,” says Marie Claire exclusively. It’s (a game changer) and the newly released All About Blur Moment Blur Stick. “Blur is huge and it’s not going away. People are wearing more makeup again, so having something like this is the perfect finish. It’s skin-mimicking. It’s not shiny, but it’s your own natural skin tone.” They play color.
