Dr. Kizmekia Corbett was the scientific leader of the Corona Virus Group at the US National Institutes of Health’s Vaccine Research Center, where she studied coronavirus biology and vaccine development. Those 6 years of research led to the breakthrough discovery that a stable version of the spike protein found on all coronaviruses could be a prime target for vaccines, treatments and diagnostics.
