Forecasters say Hurricane Ian could make landfall in Florida by midweek as a Category 4 hurricane.
According to the National Hurricane Center, Ian formed over the central Caribbean Sea late Friday and strengthened into a hurricane as it neared the Cayman Islands.

Ian is expected to become a Category 3 storm by early Tuesday, bringing heavy rains, high winds, flash floods and mudslides to the area as it passes Cuba and Jamaica.

Hurricane trackers say it’s too early to know the storm’s exact path and strength, but Ian could make landfall on Florida’s west coast or the Florida Panhandle by midday Thursday.
As a result of the potentially life-threatening storm surge, hurricane and heavy rain, tornado and tropical storm watches have been issued for much of Florida’s west coast.
Airlines serving the region, including American, Delta, Southwest and United, have begun offering flights to key Florida tourist destinations such as Daytona Beach, Key West, Miami, Orlando, Tampa and more. The US has also issued amnesties to Jamaica and the Cayman Islands.
Fox News Weather reports that several cruise lines in Port Miami and other ports in the region are preparing their crews and passengers for Ian’s impact, as MSC Cruises has changed MSC shore itineraries to avoid the storm.
