(CBS Detroit) – Michigan is once again making its mark in the fashion world.
Up-and-coming Detroit design label Nandani has been seen strutting the runway at two New York Fashion Week shows.
“It felt like a fairy tale, it was amazing,” said Nancy Berman, designer and founder of Nandani.
The luxury tie collection features ready-to-wear styles with streamlined, minimalist silhouettes.
“It should be simple, it should be beautiful and it should elevate your outfit,” Berman said.
The designer says that each tie is made using sustainable cotton materials.
“I started buying leftover fabrics from other luxury brands. For example, this green tie is an Alice and Olivia material.”
Berman’s tie collection was first conceived in November in less than a year.
“I’ve always loved relationships,” Berman said. “I used to wear ties in the ’90s, they were so cool. Then they just seemed to disappear. It just made me think, why aren’t there ties for women?”
Since then, the brand has risen. That could be thanks to the designer’s passion and drive.
“I decided this is what I’m going to do, I want to do this and I’m going to make it happen,” Berman said.
It’s this desire that the designer hopes all women feel when wearing items from her brand.
Berman described her debut collection as “inspiring and confidence-boosting.”
“I want a woman to be able to wear a tie, feel confident and walk into a room and feel like she has an equal seat at the table, that she can do whatever she wants to do,” Berman said.
In addition to two NYFW runway shows, Nandani Krati’s collection was showcased at Harper’s Bazaar.
“It’s really crazy, it’s taken really fast,” Berman said.
