There are plenty of fashion-forward historic spots in Hollywood away from Rodeo Drive or Melrose Avenue.

Fashion and Los Angeles have a unique combination – celebrities have their style, whether it’s on the Oscars red carpet or simply stepping out of their car, snapped by the paparazzi. But besides shopping destinations like The Grove or Robertson Boulevard, where do fashionistas go after a long day of boutique hopping?

A new rooftop bar in the heart of Hollywood is putting itself on the map as a fashion hotspot.

Bar Lis is a rooftop bar, lounge and nightclub at the Thompson Hollywood Hotel in Hollywood, and it brings a bit of French flair to the star-studded strip.

It’s named after an “imaginary girl named Lis” who ran away to the French Riviera in the 1960s to pursue her dream of becoming a singer. and performed for visiting Hollywood stars in the south of France.

“This is designed to be a French Riviera-inspired getaway in the heart of Hollywood,” said Sebastian Puga, EVP of Brand Experience at Ten Five Hospitality.

Black and white photos of beach stars from the 1960s and 1970s adorn the walls, while Hollywood stars flock to the south of France for vacations – from Bridget Bardot to Jane Birkin and Serge Gainsbourg, Elizabeth Taylor, James Dean and Grace Kelly.

“It aims to capture the people of Lis in the moment and immerse guests in the history of the salon,” explains Puga. The bar was designed by Creative Director Bernadette Blanc, who along with Wendy Posner of Posner Fine Art sourced, selected and positioned each photo.

It connects to the current Los Angeles vibe, which attracts creatives to the local neighborhood, which is located directly in the Vinyl District, an area off the Hollywood tourist strip, which aims to provide an updated, nightlife-driven cultural center inspired by artists. and music legends.

“Hollywood and Los Angeles itself have historically provided the creative set,” Puga said. “Bar Lis offers like-minded people a place to escape the hustle and bustle of the city to enjoy world-class live music and DJ sets.”

Bar Lees has seen a number of VIPs stroll through the grounds, from The Weeknd to Rita Ora, Drake to Taika Waititi, Anya Taylor-Joy and Lil Nas X. DJs like Diplo and Tove Lo have performed here.

It is also used as a business meeting place by local Angelenos. “It’s shining a light on the amazing creative potential here in the vinyl district,” added Puga. “The area is bringing locals and tourists together for a night out in an area that previously saw little foot traffic.”

Recently, they have a monthly burlesque series called Femme Follies featuring the world-famous founder of burlesque beauty, Miss Tosh. And every Tuesday, Bar Lis hosts Jazz Eclectic L.A., a live modern jazz night that attracts locals and visitors alike. Every Thursday through Saturday night, they have guest DJs that include talents like Ashley Smith and Bec Adams of Les Fils, Anna Calderon, as well as Rick Trainor and Wade Moon, among others.

“The hotel was created for curious creatives who desire an understated, design-focused experience,” said Dan Daley, CEO and co-founder of Ten Five Hospitality.

“From the hotel’s artfully crafted interior to our on-site dining and entertainment facilities, every detail has been thoughtfully designed with the discerning designer in mind.”
