ONEIDA (NBC 26) – Julia Royale spent weeks choosing clips and combining them with creating handmade jewelry. For Julia, it’s not just a hobby. She has her own line of JJ jewelry and her own business cards.
“I was going to make my mom earrings for her birthday, and I realized I really like doing that,” Royal said. “I spent some money on it, and everybody liked it, so I started making more.”
Royal is one of many young entrepreneurs who brought their ideas and creativity to the Oneida Farmers Market on Thursday. The first annual Homeschool Kids Trade Show was held and included about 10 vendors.
The fair was organized by homeschool teacher and regular Oneida market vendor Lisa Hubbard.
“They are our next generation. If we don’t train them to think creatively about the products they want in the future, they won’t think about what they normally think about in life,” Hubbard said.
Young entrepreneur Mara Gerner makes fairy and dragon jars. She said she is excited about the fair because it gives her an opportunity to show her love for the community.
“It’s really fun selling them and seeing people’s faces when they buy them, and I think it’s really fun to embrace what you want to do,” Gerner said.
The Oneida Farmers Market continues every Thursday from 12pm to 6pm on the first Thursday in October.
