Maui Economic Opportunity’s Core Four Business Planning Series runs from Sept. 6 to Oct. 6, and graduates will receive grants of up to $25,000 for business start-up costs.

The MEO Business Development Center offers the course with emphasis on Tuesdays and Thursdays. It is intended for those thinking of starting a business or those with entrepreneurial ideas but need direction. The series provides the information needed to start, operate, and grow a business. It also teaches how to write a business plan.

A free drop-in class to learn about the series will be held in person on Sept. 1 from noon to noon at the Maui County Business Resource Center, 110 Alahi St., 209 Kahului. Call 808-249-2990 to register for an introductory class.

The cost of the four-core business plan series is $50, and financial support is available. Registration for the series is required and can be done by submitting an application online or through the MEO website at meoinc.org. Registration forms are also available from 8am to 4pm weekdays at MEO’s Family Center Wailuku at J. You can make an appointment near the Walter Cameron Center by calling 808-249-2990.

For the second year, the Business Development Center is offering the Best Business Plan Grant Program, again funded by County Councilor Tasha Kama’s District Allowance. There will be nine awards ranging from $5,000 to $25,000 to eligible Core Four graduates to submit business plans for review.

Delhi said entrepreneurs often have attractive business ideas but lack the practical knowledge to turn dreams into reality.

“This core gives four consecutive startups a blueprint for success when they have access to startup capital,” he said.
