How well do you know the planet we live on? These geography games ask you about countries, places and states in unique ways and teach you a little bit about the Earth.

Unfortunately, GeoGuessr is now a paid online app, which is a shame because most of us don’t want to pay for a quick fun game. But don’t worry, Geotastic gives you the same experience in the form of a free, crowdfunded online game.
You must be registered to use Geotastic, and all your games are saved to track points and levels. You can choose from such game modes High score hunting (Improve your results), Challenges (Play challenges prepared by others) and Rated online (Current match modes with points and ranking). You can also play with your friends locally or by creating or joining an online lobby.
The Geotastic game works just like GeoGuessr. Each round uploads a Street View image of a location on Earth. By moving around, you have to guess where you are and drop a pin on the map. The closer the pin is to the correct position, the more points you get.
So why is Geotastic free when GeoGuessr is paid? Well, as you may have guessed, Geotastic is ad-supported. You have to watch a 15-second video ad every time you log in, but that’s the price of admission, right?
2. Hide and Seek World (Web): A free multiplayer geoguesser game for quick guesses.
Geotastic is easily the best of the free GeoGuessr options, but I have to admit, I found myself playing Hide and Seek World (HaSW) for a long time. There is more fun in the interface as you try to get closer to the displayed Street View image and compete with other players.
You can create your own game to play with your friends or join Find Wally Public game. Wally is HaSW’s AI mascot who creates public games and “hides” in space. All players race to pin the location on the map, and points are awarded in order of who is closest and fastest.
A countdown timer, a Live View gameplay section where you can see how close or far others are, and the pressure to get it right combine for a fun experience. But be aware that in the free version you can only play two public games per day, private games have no limit.
3. Geography Game (Web): Click the correct country on the 3D globe
How good are you at identifying countries on a 3D globe, not on a world political map? The Geography Game is a smooth and elegant way to test your knowledge of the world atlas. The name of a country or state will appear on the screen, and you must click on the one that appears in the world.
You can choose a region (continents, 50 US states) or open the whole world. There are two game modes. in Traditional modeYou will be asked to identify all the countries around the world at least once. in Random mode, regions are randomly polled for a predetermined number of rounds. There is a surprisingly wide collection of these videos grouped into several categories. As you would expect, you will find the entire world, continents, countries, famous states and famous cities. But there are also special collections such as busy places, fast foods, night spots, beach towns, scenic views, etc. Those are actually more fun and challenging.
Additionally, City Gazer offers a few game modes to maximize your chances. There’s a streak test to see how many countries you can correctly guess in a row or set a radius limit to see how close you can get before getting a wrong answer. 5. Terraclues (Web): Scavenger Hunt to solve clues and guess the locations
Terraclues calls itself a scavenger hunt built on Google Maps. The idea is to solve a clue where the answer is a location and mark the location on the world map.
Here’s how it works. Each hunt has a series of clues. The hints appear in the text box at the top left. You can search in the box to find a location or use Google Search in a new tab to solve the clue. Then you can go back to the box to write the name of the place.
Most of the time, you’ll need to zoom in or out to the magnification number specified for Terraclues to accept that you’ve solved the clue. You may need to switch from map view to satellite view for some answers. These species make Terraclues more interesting.
There are many user-created monster hunters available for free to play on the site. You can also create your own hunt and open it to the public or share it privately with your friends. You don’t need an account to play, but you do need to register to create your own hunt.

Depending on your selection, a random satellite map will appear on the screen, and the countdown will begin. After a few seconds, the map will zoom in or out, showing more details about the area.
After 10 seconds you will see four possible answers to choose one. In the upper right corner it shows which hemisphere it is. In the Wonders version, you can use clues like a picture or a country’s flag.

All the games in this article run on any web browser and are incredibly good for touch screen devices.
