FAIRMONT, W.Va – The inaugural Tech Yes conference kicked off Monday, with organizers hoping to showcase potential employers looking to relocate to West Virginia.
Monday’s event was a welcome reception at the Waterfront Place Marriott in Morgantown. Several presentations will be held Tuesday at the Robert H. Mollohan Research Center in Fairmont.
Event organizer Randy Cottle said the center’s location at the I-79 Technology Park will allow companies to help businesses in West Virginia.
“We really live in Silicon Mountain,” Cottle said on Monday’s Metro News talkline.
“They have Silicon Valley in California, but here we have all these government technology agencies, and we want people to know that because we’re trying to bring more jobs and opportunities to our state.”
Cottle said he wants companies to learn more about the work going on at the I-79 Technology Park and the relationship between private businesses and the public sector.
“You see those big satellites on the hill and you wonder what it is,” Cottle said. “They don’t realize that as the weather continues, most of the data that is being collected is coming out of there.”
Organizers have sold out all tickets for this year’s conference. U.S. Sen. Joe Manchin, DW.Va. And Appalachian Regional Commission Federal Co-Chair Gayle Manchin will make comments Tuesday morning.
