NORWICH – Since Marissa Dube moved into her Vergason Avenue home six months ago, she’s been puzzled as to why the sawhorse patterns keep her from taking the path from her street to the business park. Working in Lebanon.

A barrier has blocked the intersection for decades, preventing traffic from the business park from entering the narrow residential road that borders the business park. A second curb at 233 Vergason Avenue north of the credit house makes the street a dead-end, the second section of Vergason continues from that point to Hilltop Road, also bordering the business park.

Public Works Director Patrick McLaughlin told the City Council on Monday that he thinks it’s time to remove the roadblock on Business Park Road instead of residents having to drive 1.7 miles to West Town Street and encounter multiple traffic lights to get to the business. Park proposed to place the northern gable at Vergason.

McLaughlin presented the plan to the City Council on Monday. He said removing the curbs would help keep snow out in the winter because it’s difficult to negotiate during heavy snowstorms, which is a narrow long climb from West Town Street. McLaughlin said the issue came to mind because the department recently paved roads in the business park, including the Business Park Road.

In Norwich, Police Chief Patrick Daley is a traffic officer. McLaughlin will meet with Daley this week to discuss the issue and will open the road soon. A painted stop bar pattern is already marked on the new asphalt.

Councilors have suggested keeping the road open for six months or a year to see if there are any problems. How Delhi’s Reopening Begins

“I’d love for them to do that,” Dube said as he removed the curb on Business Park Road. I used to walk to work every day, avoiding all the traffic (on West Town Street).

She is also pleased that the city plans to keep the north fence along Vergason Avenue.

Dube works at Lebanon’s Charles River Laboratory, and her company’s human resources office is in the Norwich Business Park, so removing the barrier will help her get to both locations quickly.

McLaughlin told the city council he doesn’t think the move will entice business park traffic to use the residential road. He said the route would be longer for most trucks and workers going from the business park to Westtown Street to use Vergason, which is a more direct route than the main thoroughfare, Connecticut Avenue.
