PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Darrick Hall hit two home runs and Nick Matton and Rhys Hoskins each hit two-run homers to lead the Philadelphia Phillies to a 13-1 win over the Washington Nationals on Sunday.
Matton drove in four runs, Bryson Stott had three RBI and the Phillies scored five runs in the fourth and eighth innings.
Aaron Nola (8-8) struck out five and allowed one run in six innings to lift the Phillies (60-48) 12 games over .500 for the first time since August 2018.
In the year The Phillies didn’t make the playoffs that season, part of a postseason drought that stretches back to 2011. But on the same day the Phillies celebrated their 1980 World Series championship, this year’s homer-happy team featured perhaps the longest playoff absence in the league. The National League may finally be over.
Hall hit solo homers off Washington starter Corey Abbott (0-1) to play a role in the long ballgame against the Nationals. Hoskins won it all in four games.
The Phillies hit 14 homers in the four games, the most in any streak in franchise history. The previous record was set last season with 13 by the Cubs at Wrigley Field.
