Every country in the world has a travel advice page, and while the country is popular with American travelers, the pages are updated regularly to provide travelers with accurate, up-to-date information. Recently, due to the pandemic, each country’s travel advisory page will feature updated information from the CDC about the level of covid-19.
A light travel advisory comes in one of four different levels, depending on the severity of the risk to travelers in the destination. Level 1 is the lowest risk category, and advises travelers to take regular precautions. Level 2 travel advisories warn travelers to take extra precautions, but Level 3 travel advisories come with warnings to reconsider travel to that location. Southeast Asia’s population was growing in popularity before the outbreak, and being labeled a safe country to visit could see more travelers return there.
A further four destinations have been issued Level 2 travel advisories, the most prominent of which is France. Although the CDC has shown high levels of the virus and the country recently lifted the remaining Covid-19 restrictions, travelers are being warned about the threat of terrorism and civil unrest in the country. Travelers with an eye on Mozambique (unknown covid-19 level) are warned of crime, terrorism and health risks, while Nepal – which has a moderate covid-19 level – has isolated potential for political violence. Indonesia’s travel advisory in popular Bali urges travelers to take precautions due to terrorism and natural hazards. It also has a moderate level of covid-19.
One country has been issued a Level 3 and Level 4 travel advisory each. Their list is as follows.
- Step 3 – Moldova – Reconsider travel to Moldova due to armed conflict in neighboring Ukraine. According to the CDC, the level of Covid-19 is high.
- Level 4 – Mali – Do not travel to Mali due to crime, terrorism and kidnapping. According to the CDC, the level of covid-19 is low.
Travel advisories may not prevent a traveler from visiting a destination, but they should always play an important role in any US traveler’s pre-travel preparations. Regardless of a country’s alert level, travelers should always ensure they are covered abroad with a robust travel insurance policy.
