When you think of fall, you probably think of cute sweaters, pumpkin-flavored treats, beautiful leaves, and crisp leaves. But it’s also a good time to travel.
From bustling crowds and low prices to fantastic events and delicious seasonal cuisine, these 7 places to visit this fall 2022 should be on your bucket list.
Punta Cana
Early autumn is sunny and humid, with afternoon and evening showers, but storms gradually end in November. Fall is still a great time to relax on the Dominican Republic’s 30 miles of white sand beaches, go sailing, fishing, boating, or relax at the Zoo Try Agua Punta Cana or Royalton Punta Cana Resort and Casino with a drink in hand.
Munich
After a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic, Munich is finally hosting Oktoberfest again.
The festival is open from September 17 to October 3, and there are both guided tours and packages that include a seat at an Oktoberfest table, so you can skip the lines. There are other autumn festivals in the region as well. Held this year from October 15-23, the nine-day Auer Dult continues the tradition and features rides, fairs, shopping and lots of cooking, including sausages and roasted almonds.
Ho Chi Minh City
This fall, Priceline saw a fourfold increase in searches for flights to Asia. According to metasearch site Kayak, Vietnam’s largest city saw search growth of 46 percent compared to 2019, while Expedia saw a 630 percent increase in searches from last fall.
“Vietnam quickly opened its borders to foreign travelers on March 15,” Hudson said. “Ho Chi Minh City is very affordable for the fall months, so your travel dollar goes a long way.” She said she found five-star hotels for around $50 a night in September and October.
New York City
In addition to The Lion King, which celebrates its 25th anniversary in November, new productions such as Almost Famous (previews October 3) and KPOP (previews October 13) will debut in New York City.
Summit One Vanderbilt, with its Instagram-worthy Hall of Mirrors, and Edge NYC, as well as the contemporary digital arts space Hall des Lumières, have now opened up more vistas. Of course, nothing beats a walk in Central Park when the leaves change color.
London
Autumn is a good time to visit Old Spitalfields Markets on Portobello Road in Notting Hill and Shoreditch, as there are fewer tourists and it’s not too hot. You can also attend amazing shows like The Burnt City (by Punchdrunk, Sleepless Company) in December or take a ride on the London Eye or Sky Garden to get a bird’s eye view of the city.
Barbados
“In terms of price and availability, fall — or the shoulder season — is the best time to visit Barbados, with fewer hurricanes or less rain affecting island hopping,” says Christie Hudson, US public relations chief. Expedia notes that the average nightly rate is $90 less during Thanksgiving week and nearly $100 in September.
“There are also tons of music, food, and beach festivals that happen in the fall, so you’ll have plenty to do in between relaxing on the beach.”
Albania
“For the most anticipated destination to win over crowds, Albania has nearly double the number of bookings in 2022 than it did in 2019,” says Laura Lindsay, trends and destination expert at Skyscanner.
